An Independent Backyard for Every Taste
A landscape project for a warm family in the Greater Toronto Area — and, like any project, one with its own set of challenges. Two stood out. The husband and wife pictured very different yards, and a large, beautiful mature tree sat near the center, its tree protection zone sharply limiting the room we had to work with.
Rather than force a single language onto the whole space, we split the yard in two. One half answers to the father's taste — modern, with a gazebo drawn in sharp, clean lines. The other becomes the mother's wellness area, softer and more restful. A pool holds the two halves together, striking the balance between them, so the transition reads as one continuous garden rather than two competing ones.
The result is a backyard with an identity of its own — one that, for all its independence, makes every taste feel welcome.
